2011 City2Surf

UK
14 Aug:

Dressing up is part of the fun for the world's largest timed fun run - and there were plenty of imaginative costumes at the 41st Sydney City2Surf. The 14km run from the central city to Bondi Beach attracted a record 85,000 entries and filled the streets with a stream of people for most of the morning. Men's winner Liam Adams crossed the line in 41m11s - before the last wave of the race had begun. Many entered the event to raise money for charities and this year it's estimated more than $A3 million was raised for worthy causes.

Ohme Marathon

Japan
19 Feb:

In perfect running weather and a cool 6.5degC, almost 17,500 people ran the Ohme Marathon in this beautiful region west of Tokyo. This was the 46th year of Ohme Marathon and runners could choose between a 30km or 10km course. Two shorter races were held for elementary and junior high school children.

Ohme city was founded in 1951 by the combination of three smaller villages. Its name was taken from the original town of Ōme, which was famous for its Japanese Apricots. In 1955, four additional villages joined with Ōme to become what it is today. Historically it was a station on the road between east and west Japan.

Amsterdam Marathon

16 Oct:

It was perfect running weather for the 36th Amsterdam Marathon; blue sky, autumn sunshine and almost no wind - and record numbers turned out to run in the marathon and shorter distances. The flat, fast course passes through some of the city's most attractive features.

This year six men finished under 2:07 although last year's course record still held. Ethiopian Tiki Gelana set a new women's record of 2:22:08 and Dutch runner Lornah Kiplagat earned herself a place at the London Olympic Games for her finish in 2:25:52.

The times confirm that Amsterdam Marathon is one of the fastest in the world and one that is also enjoyed by runners from throughout the world.
